A small, stubborn lighthouse standing alone on a tidal island off the westernmost point of the Reykjavík capital area, unreachable at high tide.

Grótta island becomes cut off from the mainland twice a day by rising tides. The lighthouse has guided ships since 1897, and the area is a protected nature reserve popular for watching the northern lights in winter.
