A 412 meter steel mast on the Snæfellsnes peninsula that was the tallest structure in Western Europe for decades, standing alone against the Atlantic wind.

Built in 1963 for the US Navy's longwave radio communications, the Hellissandur mast transmitted signals to submarines across the Atlantic. At 412m it dwarfs Hallgrimskirkja by more than five times. It remains one of the tallest structures in the world and the tallest in Iceland by a wide margin.
