In 2008, architects proposed transforming ordinary Icelandic power pylons into colossal human figures striding across the landscape, bending and straining under the weight of the cables.
The "Land of Giants" concept by Choi+Shine Architects won an international design competition organized by Landsnet. Though never built, the vision of humanoid pylons marching through Iceland's volcanic terrain became one of the most celebrated unbuilt infrastructure concepts in the world.
