Originally named the Shahyad Tower, this inverted-Y gateway blends Sassanid and Islamic architecture with modernism.

Built to commemorate 2,500 years of the Persian Empire under the Shah. After the 1979 revolution, it was renamed "Azadi",meaning Freedom.
