Built with mud brick in the legendary city of gold, this minaret has anchored a center of Islamic learning for 700 years.

Commissioned by Emperor Mansa Musa, the richest person in history, upon his return from Hajj. The mosque's earthen architecture requires constant community maintenance against rain erosion.
