At the peak of an endless stairway carved through stone and ice, a wizard fought a demon of shadow and flame and was reborn.

Gandalf pursued the Balrog from the deepest dungeon of Moria up the Endless Stair to Durin's Tower atop Celebdil. Their battle shattered the mountainside and ended with Gandalf's death and resurrection as Gandalf the White.
