The last watchman of this Norwegian tower, Tobias Sandstøl, inspired a beloved character in one of Scandinavia's most famous children's books.

Tobias Sandstøl served as watchman for 18 years until 1922. Author Torbjørn Egner based "Tobias in the tower" from his Kardemommeby (Cardamom Town) story on him. The tower now houses a watchmen's museum on its first floor.
